There is a common misconception about using shipping containers for storage. That they are damp, rusty and dirty. This misconception has come from some storage sites that use containers that are 20 years old, have never been looked after and have been allowed to rust through. So understandably, you would not want to store in one of these.
But if you store at a reputable, professional storage site where the containers are new and looked after, you will understand why shipping containers are perfect for storage.
First let’s work out what you want from your storage unit and then we can see why containers are perfect for the job. When looking for storage, people look for the following:
At Tortoise Storage, we only buy new 1 trip shipping containers. They are called 1 trip containers because to make it worthwhile shipping them from far away lands to Tortoise Storage, they arrive in England with a load in them. But it means they have only been used once between being manufactured and landing on our storage site. They are already very clean when they arrive but we give them a once over and a proper clean between customers.
Shipping containers are fully weatherproof. They are designed for decades of use in harsh conditions on the seven seas, carrying gizmos and gadgets that need to be kept dry. So even the harshest weather conditions Knowsley can throw at them is no match for them! The new containers have additional vents in them to improve ventilation and prevent condensation. However as an extra precaution, at Tortoise Storage we have treated our containers with ‘Grafo-therm’ which is one of the best things you can treat containers with to prevent condensation.
Shipping containers are extremely secure. Unless you are armed with an angle grinder and a lot of time, you are not breaking into a container. But if you have an angle grinder and a lot of time, you can break into anything. New containers are fitted with a lock box so the padlock is covered and inaccessible to bolt cutters. And if that wasn’t enough, we provide all our customers with solid steel block lock padlocks.
At Tortoise Storage, we offer a variety of sized units depending on your storage requirements. A 10ftx8ft container is our smallest and is the size of a large garden shed. A 40ftx8ft is our biggest and is the size of a double garage. So whether you want to stack and pile, ram the doors shut and never look at it again, or you want something with a bit more room to organise and access things, we have an option for everyone!
Another great feature of using shipping container storage is that you can drive right up to your doors for quick and easy loading and unloading. No long trips in lifts with trolleys and leaving your car unattended and out of site.
Container storage facilities charge less per square foot than indoor storage facilities. This is because they cost less to set up and run than a huge warehouse building.
So, if you ever hear anyone being snooty about shipping container storage, it is because they have never seen a professional container storage site for themselves!
If you are still not convinced, why not pay us a visit! Tortoise Storage is based on Randles Road in Knowsley Business Park, just off junction 4 of the M57. Very handy to pop in, have a brew, we can show you around and you can do some container investigating for yourself!
